Computed tomography in Lviv - subtleties of the examination and indications for the procedure

CT (computed tomography) is a highly informative method of medical diagnostics based on X-ray radiation. A CT image allows for examining the patient with high diagnostic accuracy and simultaneously examining several other organs or systems.

CT is used for visual assessment of the body. This examination visualizes the anatomy of bones, some changes in the bone tissue, fractures, and destruction. A diagnosis of traumatic bone changes, specific birth defects, structural changes in bone tissue, some tumors and metastases can be confirmed or denied after undergoing a CT scan.

At the Ukrainian-Polish Heart Center “Lviv”, CT assessment can be done 24/7.

At the Ukrainian-Polish Heart Center “Lviv”, doctors perform CT scans with and without contrast enhancement.

Computed tomography examination is not painful to the patient, it does not trigger the fear of closed spaces. The examination, namely the scanning procedure, lasts 1-5 minutes. The patient is only expected to lie still. In order to do a CT scan of the spine, a person does not need to undress. However, there are certain requirements: clothing must not contain iron elements, all the jewelry and accessories must be removed during the examination (this also applies to glasses, dentures, etc.). Gels, ointments, and creams should not be applied to the area which is to be examined while preparing for a CT scan of the spine. Breaking these rules will complicate or even make analysis and description of the results impossible. Among the contraindications for CT of the spine, doctors mention high body weight and pregnancy. Upon completion of the procedure, the professional team of doctors of the Ukrainian-Polish Heart Center “Lviv” quickly and thoroughly studies the obtained images on the computer screen and provides the results of the examination.
